Does AI Even Know Your Brand Exists? Most Don't.
Before you optimize a single product page, ask a blunter question: does ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Gemini know your brand exists at all? Free check, 4 AI engines, real answers in seconds.
Most AI visibility advice starts at the product page: is this item cited, is that description good enough, does this page have the right structured data. All correct, all useful — and none of it matters if the AI has no idea who’s behind the product in the first place.
There’s a blunter question that comes first: does ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Gemini even know your brand exists? A brand can be a complete unknown to a model — not blocked, not penalized, just never recognized — regardless of how well any individual page is built.
We packaged that exact question into a free public tool.

Cited, Mentioned, or Invisible — At the Brand Level
When an AI engine answers “What is [Brand]? What does it sell?”, the response falls into one of three buckets:
- 🟢 Cited — the AI names your brand and backs it with a real source it can point to. This is the closest thing to a backlink in the AI-search era: it’s how a model justifies its own answer, and it’s the version most likely to send an actual click your way.
- 🟡 Mentioned — the AI recalls your name from what it already knows and says it out loud, but attaches no real source. You exist in its memory, but it isn’t citing anything — no link, no attribution, nothing a user can follow.
- 🔴 Invisible — the AI has nothing. No name, no source, no idea. Ask about your category and it recommends someone else entirely.
Why this matters in SEO terms: traditional search optimizes for a ranking position — a click on a blue link. AI search increasingly skips the click. The model gives the answer directly, and the only way your brand still shows up is if the model actually knows you well enough to say your name with a source attached. “Mentioned” is a pulse — proof you’re not completely off the map — but it’s “Cited” that behaves like the thing SEO has always chased: a real, attributable presence inside the answer that decides what a buyer sees.
An invisible brand isn’t losing rankings. It’s missing from the conversation entirely, in a channel that’s taking over more of the top of the funnel every month.
Why This Is Different From “Is My Product Cited?”
A single product can still get picked up by AI search even when the brand behind it is a total unknown — a narrow, specific product in an uncrowded niche needs less “help” from brand recognition to get surfaced. That’s a separate, product-level question, and it’s a deeper rabbit hole: Cited vs. Mentioned: The Two Types of AI Visibility and How ChatGPT Chooses Which Products to Recommend cover that ground well.
This check answers the more fundamental one first: forget any single product — does the AI know the company at all?
If the Answer Is No
Brand recognition isn’t fixed with a product page edit. It builds from consistent, repeated description of who you are and what you sell across independent, high-trust sources over time — a slower, brand-wide signal.

FAQ
What does the Krawfly AI Brand Check actually test?
It asks four major AI engines — OpenAI (ChatGPT), Perplexity AI, Anthropic (Claude), and Google (Gemini) — a single direct question about your brand, in real time, and shows whether each one recognizes it, names it without real detail, or has no knowledge of it at all.
Is this the same as checking if my product pages are cited?
No. Product-level citation depends on live search finding a specific page for a specific query. This check asks a more basic question first: does the AI recognize your brand as a real, known entity, independent of any product or query?
Why would AI not know a real, legitimate brand?
Brand recognition in AI models builds from how consistently and how often a brand is described the same way across independent, high-trust sources. A brand with solid SEO and real products can still be a blank slate to a model if that entity-level signal was never strong enough to register.
How much does the free check cost?
Nothing. It’s a public tool with a shared daily cap to keep the underlying AI costs sustainable — no account, no credit card, no signup required.
